The Scene

Lindbergh Schools is a highly rated, public school district serving 7,543 students in grades PK, K-12 with a student-teacher ratio of 16 to 1. Despite its success, Lindbergh staff and students were susceptible to the same safety issues inherent in inefficient dismissal procedures in schools throughout the United States. The Problem

In their quest for a better solution to chaotic dismissals and pickup processes, Lindbergh’s leadership teams conducted extensive research. This included visiting other schools and attending professional learning and networking conferences like South by Southwest. Their efforts culminated in the adoption of Pikmykid. 

Given the inherent concerns about security and data with any third-party application, ensuring rigorous vetting was crucial. Automation offered the solution, with an app seen as the ideal tool. Integration, however, hinged on stringent evaluation. Fortunately, the district’s technology department has developed a checklist to rigorously assess third-party software, ensuring it complies with both district and legal data privacy standards. 

Previous Dismissal Process

According to Dr. Craig Hamby, Director of Elementary Education at Lindbergh Schools, before adopting Pikmykid software, dismissal was chaotic at Crestwood and Concord Elementary schools, relying on outdated pencil and paper methods. While he acknowledges dismissal remains challenging due to end-of-day parent calls and last-minute schedule changes, integrating Pikmykid has enable school staff to efficiently manage these tasks and “do more with less.”
